“We are men of action. Lies do not become us.”
Sound familiar? I will be most impressed if you know what this quote is from. Actually, I would recommend we become best friends. You done Googling it now? Good. It’s from the cult classic “The Princess Bride”. A personal favorite of mine. I saw this quote on a friend’s blog last night and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
But let’s take a moment and really think about what Wesley says here.
We are men of action.
Or women of action. It applies to everyone. Doesn’t Scripture consistently reiterate the importance of doing things? Taking action? Being not only hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word?? Am I right?
James 1:22 -
But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
See that? Deceiving yourselves. What’s another word for deceiving? Lying.
Lies do not become us.
I feel like Wesley just got done reading James 1 in his quiet time before saying this quote, I swear.
So often, I feel like this generation, my generation, is a terrible example of hearers, hearers, hearers and talkers, retweeters, rebloggers. This frustrates me to no end. It is increasingly rare for me to see a young “Christian” talk about Truth and read about Truth as well as acting on the Truth. We are very good at doing just the first 2 things. But as the old saying goes, “it’s easier said than done”.
So let’s not deceive ourselves, nor let the enemy lie to us that faith without works is okay. False. We must believe in our hearts, and act on that faith. Scripture calls for faith and works. They go together.
We are men and women of action.
Lies do not become us.
Take action in the Truth.
